Talia and Tucker both participated in the Science Fair and so it was crazy week and weekend before the Science Fair. We started early for Talia's project because it was going to take a couple of weeks. Talia's project was testing to which liquid would rust the nail the most. The liquids she used were milk, orange juice, apple juice, water, vinegar, and soda pop. She predicted the soda pop or vinegar would rust the nail the most and the interesting thing was that at first the they were but by the end of 2 weeks the water won. The reason the nail in the water was the most rusted was because the acid in the other liquids actually ate away at the nail and rust. Online it said that if you actually had a precise scale those nails in the acidic liquids would weigh less. Talia was very interested in her project and did a wonderful job. She got several positive comments from the judges at the Science Fair.
Tucker did his project the weekend before and he tested to see if sugar water, salt water or plain water would freeze the fastest. His prediction was that the sugar water would freeze the fastest. His prediction was incorrect and the water froze the fastest, but the sugar water came in 2nd. The Salt water never froze. Our big freezer outside doesn't get cold enough to make it freeze. He typed everything up himself (he would tell me what he wanted to say and I would write it out and he typed it). He glued everything on and put it where he wanted and he wanted everything to be crooked. What a funny guy. He was very excited about his project and did a great job.
It was a lot of work getting the kids to do their Science Projects but in the end it was worth it and I am so glad to have 2 scientists in my family. I will post pictures later with their projects.
